Hello, Energy . . .Oops, Wrong Number!

Today I am thinking about energy sensitivity and what a mixed blessing it is to have it.

It’s totally wonderful to be in a place or with a person or persons whose energy is at a high vibration. If you are sensitive to energy, you feel like you can bask in it, soak it up, drink it in, rub it all over–well, you get my drift.

But if the energy in your environment is somehow not compatible with your own–watch out. Discomfort alert!

Psychic Sonia Choquette talks in her books about how to raise uncomfortable energy, or how to deflect it, both ways to protect yourself. But she also advises that sometimes there is nothing to do but get the heck out of Dodge. I’ve had more than a few “get out of Dodge” experiences myself.

The first had to do with one of my favorite places to visit, the Horseshoe Casino in Shreveport, Louisiana. I am not ashamed to admit that I have long enjoyed playing the slots. I think it’s genetic, as my mother treasured her twice-yearly trips to Reno, and I felt the same way about the Horseshoe. My last trip to Shreveport was about a year into this period of spiritual development, and I was not prepared for what happened. The energy in the casino actually made me physically ill, nauseous, dizzy, weak, all of that. I thought I had an ill-timed flu, but the minute we left the casino to drive back to Dallas, I made a full recovery. I don’t think anything was different in the casino, the difference was in me. But drat, I do miss that fun. . . .

About two years ago while visiting Austin we took in a Body, Mind, Spirit event. I go to these things as a matter of course whenever they are in my local area and have always loved roaming around among the psychics, healers, and hawkers of goods–a good time. But that day in Austin I couldn’t stay in the room. The energy felt terribly off, but if I stepped into the foyer I was fine. What the heck was up with that?!

Recently I was invited to join an informal group of women who are exploring their spirituality. They meet together once a week for friendly discussion of what they are feeling, thinking, reading, finding in workshops, and so forth. They are lovely people who offer love and support to one another as they search for their own paths. Some of them have been at it longer than others. I was honored to be asked to join them. But guess what–it turns out that my energy is off from theirs. I am traveling a different road, not better or worse, just different. So I won’t be going back and I am sorry about that, because you always look for ways to grow and learn. But you must always choose the way that is best for you. And you just hope that it doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.

So what about you? Can you feel the differences in the energies around you? Have you had your own “get out of Dodge” experiences?

Think about it.
